Introducing... "Pub and Grub". What do you think of this for a 2007 theme trip: A two day Lower Kern trip along the lines of a wine pairing trip dedicated to the fine art of brewing quality micro beer? This might be one of the best ideas the Kern’s seen in some time.
After a full day on the water, what could be better than arriving at camp and spending the evening being educated on the nuances of micro beer by a pro? Complete with a couple reps from the brewery, icy cold samples, and a specially prepared barbeque?
I suspect this trip is bound to become a Kern tradition.
Any guides request working this trip?

Awesome Idea!!! The White Maiden Weizen might be persuaded to show up. Maybe a whole batch, as samples only, to be shared among loads, and not for profit. Portage Porter might be a little heavy for the summer, but a Lucky Load's Dream Cream Ale is just good Ha Ha.
Sign me up as a designated paddler.

I Agree, Ryan is the only guy for the job. I'd rather split more firewood instead.
Wow! Luther, I couldn't wait to get home to post...On a scale from 1-10 I'd rate this trip a 42. The small group, guided by Ryan, Gif and Chris, was a great mix of personality and expertise. The Kern River brews from Eric and Rebecca from Kern River Brewing Company (Kyle was busy prepping for a new brew) as well as home-brew from Major's "Loadie Brewing" were phenomenal. My favorite was the Stout and the Abbey and Dusty kept going back to the IPA. We loved Maj's White Maiden Hefe--label was a "10". The hand-out on beers and food pairings (ala Mike) was cool too--nice touch. Speaking of food pairings; the menu was over the top. Wings, brats, salmon, honey chipotle butter for the corn, and oh yes David's all-mighty ribs, were the stars of the show. I think they are still working their way through my system. I'm starting to get scared because I'm still full two days later. Will I ever be hungry again? I don't recall signing a waiver for never being able to eat again. Oh, "it hurts". The trip was topped off by a blast on the river, lots of white water, some good crashes in the duckies as well as being able to watch Ryan and Gif navigate the 5+. I can't forget the root-beer floats too (also ala KRBC)--icing on the cake indeed. I'm blown away by how much you all pulled out all the stops for the first annual pub and grub. Thank you so much for making Dusty's b-day trip such a success. We smiled all the way back to San Diego. --Thanks, Jenny Sims

You've outdone yourself and created a proud moment on the water. This is destined to be a KRO tradition. Thanks for a great trip and for bringing out the best in all the loads on the Lower!
